International Charity Legal Run 2016 expands its geography

The registration for the International Charity Legal Run 2016 has began ‒ a unique fund raising project uniting representatives of the professional community of lawyers around the world to support the wards of Trust Charitable Foundation «Gift of Life».

Official races will be held on May 29 in Moscow, St. Petersburg, London, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, Novosibirsk, and this year for the first time ‒ in Yekaterinburg, Tyumen and Voronezh. The project emerged from a combination of three occasions at once: Russian Legal Profession Day, World No Tobacco Day and the International Children’s Day — is traditionally held with the support of the Federal Chamber of Lawyers of the Russian Federation, VDNH and St. Petersburg International Legal Forum.

Over 2.6 million rubles was raised within the framework of the project, allowing for targeted medical assistance to nine severely ill children. In 2016 the organizers are hoping to raise double that sum thanks to geographic expansion of the project and an increase in the number of participants.

The runs have annually attracted representatives of Russian and international law firms, corporate in-house lawyers, students and law school teachers. Many participate in races in the corporate teams format. In 2015 more than 1,300 lawyers ran the races, more than 500 of whom were at VDNH, Moscow.

Joggers’ and walking enthusiasts’ favourite, VDNH has traditionally been the place for the Moscow race. It is one of the largest recreational facilities in the world, one of the most popular public spaces of the Russian capital. With regard to the organizers’ expectation to double the number of participants this year, the start-finish area of the race was moved to Promyshlennosti Square. The 5 kilometer- long track will enlace the central part of the facility and the picturesque surroundings.

Organization of races comes at the expense of private donations and sponsor contributions ‒ law firms and other companies. In 2016 the project was supported by more than 60 Russian and international law firms, of which 21 companies are sponsoring the Moscow race: A2, ArtdeLex, BGPLitigation, Westside Advisors, Gudkov, Korelskiy, Smolyarzh, DS Law, Yegorov, Puginski, Afanasiev and partners, Zabeyda, Kasatkin, Saushkin and partners, Cliff, KIAP, Koblev and partners, Com-Unity, Liniya Prava, Linklaters, Olevinsky, Buyukyan and partners, Ost Legal, RKT, S & K Vertical, FBK Legal, YurPartner’ and YUST.
