«The noble economy breakdown.The end of feudal system in the works of Russian authors», - the new article by Elena Chirkova published in the weekly magazine «Kommersant Den’gi».

This article describes the evolution of Russian economy in the 19th century through the lens of noble life and the way it was shown in works of literature of the era. Based on the texts of Russian writers, the author shows how the nobility made its way through the ranks of ultimate economic dominance at the beginning of the century to the total loss of their wealth and status at the end of the century.Nobility was not adapted to capitalistic conditions and gave way to merchants and entrepreneurs to become the economic elite.
